Karopczyc Award

This award is named after Lt. Stephen E. Karopczyc '65, Medal of Honor recipient killed in service during the Vietnam War. A sundial memorial to Lt. Karopczyc stands in the Peace Garden, outside Sodality Chapel. The award recognizes a young alumnus, for outstanding service to the College or community. In 1999, it was recommended that this award be made to an alumnus fewer than 10 years from his/her graduation date.

Established in 1970 by his Phi Omega brothers and classmates.

Frequency and Award History

Nominees are proposed to a committee of the National Alumni Association Board to review. Final selection is made by the President of the College.

When/Where Awarded

At the Annual President's Dinner 1971-1986; during Reunion Weekend, or in the hometown of the recipient.
